Kotadurga , Jagannadha temple at Palakonda

palakonda is a divisional(palakonda revinue division) & mandal(palakonda Mandalam) head quaters in srikakulam district . . and is a place of white hills hence the name Pala(milk) konda(hill). The surrounding areas are of tribal in nature. palakonda is one of the Assembly constituency & a town in srikakulam dist.

The important worshiping places in this area are some hindu temples like " Kotadurga temple , jagannadha temple .

A few christian churches and famous muslim Mosques.
Kotadurga ammavaaru :

Godess of durga in the name of Kotadurga is very fomous hindu worshiping temple . During Dasara days poojas and some religious celebrations for nine days will be performed every year.

This is a famous historical temple. Before independence this area was ruled by an Oriya Zamindar family, under the British rule. The Jamindhars lost all their properties due to internal family conflicts(battle between Vijayanagaram and Bobbili Samsthanam). Every thing was ruined and only 2 lakes and remnants of their houses and this durga temple remain at present. Krushna Dash, an Oriya Priest from Orissa and a devotee of Durga started worshiping here in 1947. People around Palakonda worshiped the goddess, Ghatalu Bindelu, with turmeric water, and this was the main attraction of folk people. Dassara is the main Thai Pongal (festival) of this temple. KrupaSindhu Das son of Krushna Dash rehabilitated the temple ruin to its original state.he took care of the temple followed by his three sons Purna Chandra Das,Sarath Chandra Das,Venkateshwara Das till 2000.after that the government has taken the temple rights.

Puri jagannadha idols are kept here for worshiping and all celebrations will be followed and imitated as if it is a God of Puri of Orissa jagannadha swamy.

This temple was built centuries ago and very much famous for its "Ratha Yatra".

పాలకొండ జగన్నాథస్వామి : పూరీ తరువాత అంతటి ప్రాధాన్యం ఉన్న ఇక్కడి ఆలయంలో ఏటా తొమ్మిదిరోజుల పాటు ఉత్సవాలు ఘనంగా నిర్వహిస్తారు. తొలిదశమి సందర్భంగా ముహూర్తపు రాట, మొదటి రథయాత్ర ప్రారంభమవుతోంది. హిరాపంచమి సందర్భంగా వరహా నరసింహాస్వామి అవతారం, మారుదశమి సందర్భంగా స్వామివారి నిజరూప దర్శనం ఉంటుంది. 22న తిరురథయాత్ర ప్రారంభమై 23తో ఉత్సవాలు ముగుస్తాయి. పాలకొండ ఆలయానికి ప్రత్యేక స్థానం ఉంది. ఒరిస్సాకు చెందిన జైపూర్‌ రాజులు 600 ఏళ్ల కిందట ఈ ఆలయాన్ని నిర్మించినట్లు చెబుతారు. అప్పటి నుంచి ఏటా ఇక్కడ ఉత్సవాలు ఒరిస్సా సంప్రదాయంలో జరుగుతున్నాయి. ఒరిస్సా నుంచి యాత్రకు పెద్దసంఖ్యలో భక్తులు తరలివస్తారు. ఈ ఆలయాన్ని పూరీలోని ఆలయ నమూనాలో నిర్మించారు. ఇక్కడి రథం జిల్లాలోని అత్యంత పెద్దరథంగా పేరొందింది.
